  Emergency Officials urge evacuees to stay put
  ~Louisiana and Mississippi officials urge residents not to come back until conditions are safe~
  
  TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Citizens who have evacuated to Florida from Louisiana and Mississippi should stay put according to officials from both states.
  
  “We urge evacuees to exercise caution and remain here until local officials determine it is safe to return to their homes,” said Florida Emergency Management Director Craig Fugate.
  
  In Louisiana, the storm may be passing over, but the storm surge is still continuing. Residents should wait until storm damage can be assessed and officials determine it is safe to return. Louisiana residents can visit www.NOLA.com or call the state emergency recorded hotline at 1-866-288-2484 for updates on the conditions in Louisiana.
  
  Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour today urged evacuated residents to stay put until damage assessments could be done. Mississippi residents can call the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) public information line at 1-866-519-MEMA for updated information.
  
  Florida shelters will remain open as long as they are needed to support Gustav evacuees. Visit www.FloridaDisaster.org for updated shelter locations and information.
